My surgeon's program wanted us to maintain our regular meal times to keep a sense of normalcy in our lives. But knowing we can't get all our calories and protein from just the 3 meals/day we can eat, he has his patients fill in the gaps with protein shakes between meals. Eventually we're able to eat more at mealtimes and could reduce the number of protein shakes per day.
